This piece is a cascading buddle of cantaritos with holy illustrations depicting the story of Juan Diego and La Virgen De Guadalupe. Growing up in a catholic household la virgen de guadalupe was seen everywhere. In my childhood bedroom there was a portrait of la madre de mexico along with smaller illustrations of Juan Dego helping with the creation of the Basílica de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. I wanted to retell the story of Juan Deigo and La Virgen de Guadalupe through underglazed pots that resemble traditional terracotta cantaritos. I also wanted to make my depictions of Juan Deigo and La Virgen look more indegenous, unlike the images I saw around my home.
